Argentina: fires affected almost 100,000 hectares of forests in the province of Salta

The forest fires started in October 2022 and lasted until the beginning of 2023. The fire devastated native forests in the mountainous area.

More than 1,500 fire alerts on the Global Forest Watch platform show the burned areas in the departments of Orán and General José de San Martín.

During the year 2022, throughout the country the fire reached 1.8 million hectares.

In Argentina, 95% of fires are caused by humans, either intentionally, by accident or negligence.
