Degrowth aims to create a future where societies live within their ecological means, with open, localised economies and resources more equally distributed through new forms of democratic institutions. This vision is often simplified as “degrowth is communism, socialism or Marxism”. While degrowth and communism both criticize the capitalist system and envision post-capitalist utopias, they differ in important points.
