Democracy only functions with well informed and balanced people

A democracy only functions when people are well informed. But with media hunting for clicks to feed the ad revenue, sometimes the news doesn’t have to be true. It just has to be exciting and you have to be the first.

The same goes for the social-media algorithms, that boost controversial topics, often false. And then people living in such a false bubble elect someone that is in sync with that illusion. And I’m not talking about the us, this happened in nl as well.

Therefore, wouldn’t it be great to just open-source everything. But only accept contributions that are proven based on the scientific method? Wouldn’t that be a participatory democracy with valuable input and output? Of course it’s not perfect. But it by design filters out the BS we see in politics nowadays. It also motivates and rewards society to become more involved.

How can there be a democracy when the majority of news outlets are owned by corporations? These private entities will always try to convey their worldview. And you know that he who hires the orchestra decides the music they play.
