If this is really that good it’s going to be a gamechanger for the droughts we will experience due to climate change.
We have significantly more than enough water in the ocean to provide clean water for everyone on Earth. Water will be free if we start to do mass desalinization, but it will “hurt” the anti-economy.
If it’s really technically feasible, this article claims it is, and that would be awesome! 
Until now it took a lot of effort to do this. Israel and South Africa for example are dependent on this practice to get extra freshwater (if I’m not mistaken).
But at the same time, it’s a reaction to the problem, not a true solution. We need to stop polluting the water and act on climate change 
Otherwise we keep pumping water out of the ocean, while the Earth can already produce freshwater.
While freshwater is significantly less abundant than water in the ocean, we still, have more than enough for all people on Earth.
Getting freshwater is less resource intensive than desalinization, therefore, more ecological. By stopping pollution on freshwaters, we can find ways to provide clean water with more easier to use and ecological technologies.
