we’ll bring back the American dream and reduce energy costs, liberating our economy.
We have more oil and gas than any country in the world, and we’re going to use it.
We’re not going to do the wind thing—wind, big ugly windmills.
They ruin your neighborhood, and if you have a house near a windmill, guess what?
Your house is worth less than half.
Did you see up in New England with the whales? You see what’s happening.
They had two whales killed in about 14 years. Last year and the year before, they had a total of 28.
So, if you’re into whales, you don’t want windmills either.
They’re the most expensive form of energy by far, and they’re all made in China—practically all of them.
They kill your birds and ruin your beautiful landscapes. But other than that, I think they’re quite good.
Remember when we used to joke and kid? When we were kidding, but we don’t kid anymore.
They want to watch the debates on television. They want to watch your favorite president on television.
But the wind isn’t blowing, so we can’t watch television that night.
I’m immediately withdrawing from the unfair, one-sided Paris Climate Accord.
The United States will not sabotage its own industries while China pollutes with impunity.
China uses a lot of dirty energy, but they produce a lot of it.
And when that stuff goes up in the air, it doesn’t stay there.
It floats into the United States after three and a half to five and a half days.
It comes right over your neighborhood and falls into your neighborhood.
So, they all say we have to fight for cleaner air, but the other dirty air just rolls over us.
Unless everybody does it, it just doesn’t work.
Short term profits, regardless of the long term effects on the environment and thus ourselves. If the market economy would be a person, it would be Trump.
This is also evidence that all States will always withdraw progressive policies if the Market god a.k.a. ruling class feels threatened in any way. This is an universal truth for any capitalist country
I can prove the guy has resentment against China. So do your math.
The scope of my argument to the opening post was not even addressed in the video though.
True, but that’s because of the things that happen in China, which he shows in the video. We all have some level of resentment here towards Trump as well, based on the context of this thread. That doesn’t make the content false.
I of course also understand that the West outsourced their factories to the East. As well as export their waste to the East. That too is a form of green washing. But at least the West doesn’t staple leaves to trees to make it look better The West is composed of mostly democratic nations, which report openly about their waste. And because the West has courts, independent from the government, they can be sued, if things don’t go as they should. Unlike in China.
Sorry Kees but you’re moving the goal posts with more West propaganda and cherry picking. Excuse me if I choose not to buy the hegemonic discourse about those peoples who have a different societal paradigm that challenges the West’s worldview. That doesn’t mean I agree with everything.
Do I? I think I’m still on topic here. We started this discussion because of the Chinese pollution subject. Then we branched into a resentment towards China discussion, which I think is really justified. Given the examples I gave. Furthermore, TZM-like initiatives would not ever exist or originate from China because of the repressive authorities over there. That thought exercise might give you an indication of how lucky we are to be born somewhere else.
I share links to data and objective reporting about China’s environmental impact. It’s a fact that China and India are the worst polluters on the planet. It can be seen from space. I don’t think that’s propaganda.
I think we Millennials (I assume you’re one too) need to re-calibrate to a changing world. We grew up in a world where the West was the single superpower in the world. And thus, every action but also inaction resulted in finger pointing to the West. And since we live in a free society, we could fully enjoy that activity. I think that has become a second nature for many and has made us believe that the grass is greener on the other side, while it’s not, even if they paint it green.
The world has changed. And I think we should apply the same critical evaluation to the new superpowers as we used to do to (our) Western actions and inactions. The West is no saint, but let’s be real. The new upcoming superpowers are way, way worse. Just look at how their own citizens and the weakest/vulnerable in society are treated. That’s a good benchmark of their ethics and what impact that might have once those new superpowers become more powerful than the West. It’s not a world that would bring us closer to an RBE or any kind of better life.
Sure, things now look bleak with Trump at the helm. But 4 years ago Biden used executive orders to reverse the policies from Trump. Now Trump reverses things from Biden. Who knows, the next president might restore the damage caused by Trump again. It’s not all doom and gloom, because of democracy. It’s not perfect, but hey, it’s better than the alternative.
The topic was China’s carbon based emissions not general pollution like the fallacious examples from the biased/resentful guy’s video, also the topic (you didn’t address) was world leading country in reforestation, while others in our precious West are deforesting at an alarming rate. I advise you to look up Hydroseeding.
I never said they didn’t pollute, now show me their data per capita.
The examples you gave are west propaganda.
More western biased perception based on propaganda and misinformation.
No, it really isn’t. It’s no secret that protest/activist groups don’t get much room for development, to put it mildly.
That’s true, I now understand your point. In terms of CO2 output, per capita, they do it better than the us indeed. But overall, they aren’t the best. There are also developed countries that have an even lower CO2 output per capita, with a bigger middle class population (which of course increases CO2 output), China is still developing their middle class. But yeah, Trump’s claim may not be on point. For sure retreating from the Paris agreement won’t solve our global problems.
In terms of forest area, China isn’t the winner. So they are perhaps just catching up after they destroyed their forests? If they really are, I mean the video didn’t really spark much hope where they paint mountains green.
