Biocapacity is the ecosystems capacity to regenerate biological material used by people and to absorb waste material generated by humans.
Living off depletion is not a long-term strategy. Depletion or overuse will end. The question is only whether by design or disaster.
Since the Netherlands have less biocapacity per person than the world, the ratio for the world is smaller: If everyone in the world consumed like the Netherlands’ residents, humanity would be using the equivalent of 3.6 Earths.
