Honestly it feels like something snapped in Iran lately. We’ve seen protests there before but this time it’s on another level. People aren’t just asking for lower prices or reform anymore, they’re literally attacking the core symbols of the regime. There are tons of videos of women walking around without hijabs and just casually lighting cigarettes with burning pictures of the “supreme leader.” There are reports of people targeting mosques because they see them as tools for the government. It’s wild to see the fear just disappear like that. It really looks like a whole generation is done with the islamic republic and just wants a normal, secular country.
Europe did this too, a long time ago with christianity. Let’s hope the middle east can liberate themselves too from religious oppression.
I keep hearing that a lot of people in the West are scaring us, saying that this is going to be a chaos. No one made chaos in the region more than the Islamic Republic did. Just believe that Iranian people deserve to have the same freedom that you take it for granted in the UK, in America, everywhere. We the women deserve to have the same freedom without getting beaten up by bunch of backward Islamist Sharia law’s police, telling us what to wear. We deserve to have dignity. And a secular democracy is the demand of this people taking to the streets.
