In my early twenties, I got involved in short-term equity trading. It was your standard escape logic: seeking a way to make a living without being completely absorbed into the arcane power hierarchy of the corporate business structure, while also protecting a calling I held sacred: being a musician and artist—and I never wanted to pollute the honesty of that pursuit with the severe dishonesty of today’s horrid method of economic survival. The idea was to separate the worlds entirely.
