The ecogestures

Hello
What do you think of ecogestures to preserve the environment?
In my opinion, these are individual measures that rely of the efforts of citizens, whose gvernments are going to say,for example,“don’t fly, turn off your electrical appliances if you’re not using them, sort your waste” without calling into question the responsibility of states and companies
Thanks you
Good days

That’s a typical neo-liberal mentality imposing all the weight over the individual, masquerading that the system is the main creator of the problems.
There’s no doubt every individual action can help but it’s just a grain of sand compared to the environmental impact of the industry.

I think we as an individual should do whatever we can do make a difference. Because in the end these corporations act on demand. We can point fingers at e.g. Shell or other oil companies, but at the end of the day they serve the common people with cheap energy. It’s of course difficult to say no to that, because that would mean your own economic value decreases. Oil is of course not just fuel, it’s everywhere. And that’s just one example.

This website for example shows how much impact even short flights have:

For example a flight from Amsterdam to Lisbon already puts enough CO2 in the air of what should actually be your yearly limit to combat climate change.

So from that perspective, if you don’t make an effort, why should others? I think it’s a valid point of view to be more critical of yourself than of others, because you have control over your own choices and behavior. Become the change :rainbow:

But I certainly agree that there should be pressure on large polluting companies. That can be done with regulations. But then again, people should vote for or join these political parties. Things happen only if people make an effort. And yes, that can be an individual choice. In my opinion that’s where your influence lies.
