TheLinuxExperiment ditches Firefox for all the wrong reasons

Informed decisions are always important, especially with so much noise out there.

It’s time to move bra –

Desktop: Librewolf
Android: Ironfox

I suppose you watched the video. So, what’s the reason to switch to a different browser?

Those Firefox forks are not sustainable. Mozilla does all the heavy lifting, those forks only make minor changes, such as removing some stuff that’s legally required, such as a TOS. Those forks don’t contribute to Firefox itself. In other words, if people would actually switch to a fork, Firefox would die, and thus those forks as well.

I suppose you don’t understand open-source Community . If you do not like how organizations conducting their operations you fork it. When Mozilla added a unique ID string to every downloads you make it invade our privacy So, people fork it and build Librewolf . The Fact about open-source everything is open from start to finish . The whole point of forking a project is to continue the legacy of " open-source mentality* "

*open-source mentality : continue contributing to open-source projects for betterment of humanity

best example : Linus Torvalds he likes Unix system but he doesn’t have money to pay for the software. So, he built Linux system . Yes he built it from scratch but you can call it another type of forking the forking of ideas.

In fact in RBE world open-source and forking flourish in exponential rate.

Since you know the open-source community so well, why don’t you show me the actual additions these forks made to the parent project. Because all of them rebase to the Firefox branch. Then they make minor modifications, that mostly just disable “privacy invading” features. That’s not how contribution works. Of course they are free to do so. But again, if everyone starts using these non-contrubuting forks, then Firefox dies.
