I have predicted young people shifting left, being more in favor for the democratic socialist parties (such as Die Linke in Germany), as a reaction to declining material conditions.
However, that didn’t happen, and instead, a lot of young people actually shifted to the right and voting for far-right parties (such as the AfD).
And when we look at gender, it’s young men who got to the right, because a lot of women continue to vote center or left.
And a lot of people might be voting for those parties not because they are ultra-conservative, but because they are openly anti-establishment.
And the rise of the far-right is important. If the fascists parties, in collaboration with the conservative capitalist parties take over western europe, then our vision could be threatened and become harder, if not, impossible to implement.
The movement towards the right wing is due to two things in my mind:
Rejection of wokeism
Longing for order and structure.
In many ways i think as society collapses, it is the right wing that will hold the system together as it falls. The left wing depends upon openness, freedom etc which causes a small amount of chaos which can only be workable with enough stability.
Oh, and immigration, especially from islam countries, is causing a lot of problems in Europe. This also causes a rise of right wing politics.
Welcome to the forum! I’m afraid you’re indeed on point. But fake news also contributes to the shift. And I wouldn’t necessarily say left politics create chaos. When policies do not reflect the real world, you get indeed a misalignment. Both sides have this issue, since both sides in general don’t apply a scientific mindset. It’s mostly focused on public opinion and reception. The right is indeed “big daddy” that sets a harder tone. But it doesn’t really make a huge difference. For example the new government in nl is not getting more done. I would even argue they are quite clueless since their political agenda doesn’t align with the real world. But I do hope things even out.
