Global chapters & introduce yourself šŸ‘‹

Hi @DiegoJujuy! People have the ability to leave and join other forum groups. So if they prefer the meta chapter, then they can join that one. Itā€™s also possible to join multiple forum groups. I think it wouldnā€™t hurt to remain a member of your local chapter while being part of a meta, since local activism is very effective. The term chapter also means a ā€œlocal branchā€.

Iā€™m working on a new chapters map. If there are no members of a chapter, it will unlist automatically. However, this new map also does not have support for meta chapters. Itā€™s just very hard to illustrate such a thing on a map. But the website will be open-source, so if someone has ideas about that, then feel free to contribute. An idea would be to create an extra overlay for metaā€™s,that way it doesnā€™t become too crowded. But I still donā€™t know how to draw something like that. Maybe a colored outline for countries to show which is part of which meta. But how to deal with overlaps. Spain e.g. could be part of the Spanish speaking meta, but also part of some kind of European meta in the future.

I had to rename the meta chapter to meta_hispanic, this is due to the character limit talked about last year. Iā€™ve reset it back to 20. This is due to some formatting issues and to be in sync with the upstream projectā€™s settings. The full name of the group is still ā€œMeta chapter hispanicā€, only the tag was renamed.

As already mentioned in the forum chat, we have a new interactive map! :tada:

Iā€™ve spent some time creating a new TZM chapters map. We had one in the past, but it went offline. This new map is fully based on open-source software and is as decentral as we can be. Chapters have to be created on the forum, but people can add and remove themselves as they like. This reflects the principles of our movement as well. I think chapters are key for our movement to do effective activism. It allows us to organize on a local grassroots level, and a map like this allows us to interact globally together via the Internet. Sharing ideas and progress, which inspires more change.

The chapters may not be that active anymore, but I think it still is key in the movementā€™s success. Local activism builds up a different kind of presence and it also allows friendships to be built.

Awesome! Welcome to the forum! :tada: I see you already made yourself at home here by joining the Canadian chapter, very nice! Good to have you here! If you have any questions, please let us know in a topic or in the chat.

Is Canada still active? Or is this a new beginning?

Hey there, thank you for the welcome.
We will certainly have questions.
No it looks like Joe and I are the only ones. Was hoping to have a group we could get together with and get involved with on beginning a resource economy. Lots in and around our little town are thinking and planning a community but havenā€™t heard much.
Hopefully this forum will assist us in understanding how to develop a sustainable community.
We need a lesson 101.
Looking forward to meeting more of the TZM community.

I think I am the only one in the UK chapter? Could someone guide to me to a way of communication with other people from the UK supporting the zeitgeist Movement please?

Hi @Lucas, welcome to the forum and thanks for adding yourself to the @chapter_uk group here on the forum. That helps to find each other, but not if youā€™re the only one of course  I believe @Woody is also from the UK, he may have more information.

In any case, in the forum group there is also the chapter website: https://thezeitgeistmovementuk.com/

Maybe you can get some more contacts from there.

Hi! Welcome to the forum! Would you be interested in starting a chapter? It basically means starting a local group to do educational activism. Organize meetings, discussions, maybe also events. But itā€™s best to start small by creating a social media page or group on the platform youā€™re most active on. Or create a website, which is best to maintain current information about your chapter in a static location on the web. You can also do both of course. Create a webpage and social media presence.

Let me know! And otherwise, feel free to just roam around here and interact a bit. Itā€™s what most people do anyway

Thank you Kees,
Thank you for your message. I am looking forward to getting more enlightened and to learn more from the global community. I donā€™t have the resources to run or start a chapter at this moment.

Ive just joined and heard about the movement from YouTube. I live in Indianapolis IN and have unknowingly been an activist for this cause for many yrs!!! Seams like its the common sense conclusion for where we should already be!!! I havenā€™t had any social media connections since mid 2018,soon as I realized Trump was going to be trumped by the puppeteers through Biden!! I claimed to coin the term ā€œBiden Badā€ and ā€œthe puppet presidentā€ just b4 I signed off by way of deletion of all social media accounts!! As right as I was Iā€™m extremely surprised that those coined terms havenā€™t been used as the description a whole lot more!!! Seems what we need is someone famous to endorse the cause or,in the least, lots more advertisements because the number of members here seems far less than I would have ever thought!!! I would really love to here a detailed walk through of exactly how this would actually operate on a day by day basis? I myself believe that there is a use of government but that all positions held should be very limited and elected by way of raffle drawing and pay nothing with every able minded persons name thrown in the hat!!! In a real democracy the people vote for everything. We live in a corrupted democratic republic and will never be free of corruption because to few have far too much money, influence and power. The problem i see here is a lack of explaining how things will get decided and devided? While the thought is a wonderful dream it lacks the solid truth of reality!!! But all things have a beginning and maybe this is still in its infancy?

It may certainly help! But in order to have a sustainable movement for the long-term itā€™s important that everyone is self motivated and makes sure the TZM Train of thought remains heard in the cultural zeitgeist. Regardless of a hype factor. Otherwise weā€™re just an excitement based movement.

This is a ā€˜that dependsā€™ answer. If youā€™re a good public speaker then itā€™s probably a good idea to focus attention towards that, either online or organize events. If youā€™re a graphic designer you could certainly help out creating social media content. If youā€™re in IT you could help out with improving and expanding our infrastructure. If youā€™re into research you could perhaps collaborate with others to work on answers for the root cause problems we see today and present your results.

Now I know this is easier said than done. All of this requires time and as mentioned a healthy portion of self motivation. Something we come up short due to other priorities in live. So you can also do the small steps, as long as they are consistent. For example regularly post something on social media (which can also be big chat groups or in the form of stories as you have on Signal/WhatsApp). Or being active here on the forum helps as well. Since every post here is cross posted over several social media platforms. A news letter is also automatically generated based on popular posts here.

As soon as Iā€™ve finalized some technical stuff Iā€™ll start a YouTube/Podcast thing where Iā€™ll dive into topics like these. For that, stay tuned. But in the meantime, feel free to find your place in the movement. Which I mentioned, it can be very diverse and is based on your interests and skill set.

The video in our quick start might answer your questions about our views on democracy and economy.

As for famous people, there have been a few people advocating the movement and attended events. One that comes to mind now is Rutger Hauer, famous Dutch actor, but also known for e.g. Blade Runner and The Dark Knight.

Ive probably seen all his movies,i thought i heard that he passed away? That thing i seen him in last was a Dust short film.

Sadly he already passed away indeed. The video is from 2012, maybe the moment when the movement was at its height.

I think @Kees made the explanation a bit professional  here is my more human approach, I would recommend if your local area donā€™t have any chapter (itā€™s just TZM way of saying branches or sub branches) to open one, if your division donā€™t have you should really do it, if your state or country doesnā€™t have, you should really really really open oneā€¦ Because

  1. damn isnā€™t itā€™s freaking cool to be the first one in the country to dear to open a branch or chapter?:grimacing:
  2. It will be easy for others of your place to just join the chapter and be friend with you, or lazy ones can join the movement more easily :v:
  3. Since there is nothing but learn about the movement, if you want to contribute more than that, opening a chapter and adding your close ones into it by sharing the chapter is a good lazy way of contributing more (at least thatā€™s my wayšŸ˜…)
And opening a chapter is damn easyā€¦ Just open a social media account, in any website you want and than just come here with the link of that account, add it to chapter map or ask @Kees to do it. Boom done :grimacing: youā€™re officially the first one to create the chapter in your placeā€‹:v:
You donā€™t even need to maintain that account if youā€™re busyā€¦ I gone offline for two months straight, you can see how little work I have done in the accounts of Bangladesh chapterā€¦ :sweat_smile:Kinda ashamed saying it, but itā€™s really up to you how much you do for the movement. I tried to explain it to my friends and close ones, got more educated on the topic and still experimenting ways to do more contributions :v:
There you have it more human approach :joy::sweat_smile:

Itā€™s not TZM lingo, itā€™s an English term for local branch. Itā€™s also used by e.g. Volt, a grassroots European political party and many other organizations use this term such as well such as Greenpeace, but also open source organizations such as OpenStreetMap. It can be a confusing term since most people think about books when hearing about it.

But indeed, the workload of a chapter is totally in your control. Simply creating the anchor point for others to find and connect is a low effort act and in the future could expand in more active involvement once more people join.
